To work as a member of the Advanced eServices UNIX team with responsibility for the specification, design, build and support of UNIX servers, which typically form part of custom designed, complex e-commerce web sites built and managed by the company on behalf of their customers.The primary UNIX platforms in use are Sun Solaris and Intel/Linux. Systems are monitored using BMC patrol and Big Brother and the backup solution is Veritas NetBackup. Highly available clustering and UNIX server security are frequently critical issues.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
· To provide consultancy on UNIX server and storage systems. This will involve working with the technical pre-sales team and sometimes directly with potential customers to specify appropriate servers and storage systems. This will often include clustered UNIX solutions.
· To build and install UNIX servers. This will involve using automation tools using tools such as Jumpstart & RPM.
· Operating system hardening.
· Administration and monitoring of UNIX servers.
· Day-to-day UNIX and storage administration.
Essential Requirements
· At least 5 years UNIX administration experience which must include recent Solaris and Linux.
· Sun Certified System Administrator or similar UNIX administrator certification.
· Working Knowledge of at least one UNIX clustering solution, e.g. Veritas VCS, Sun Cluster or HP MC/ServiceGuard.
· Knowledge of DiskSuite, Veritas Volume Manager or HP LVM.
· Knowledge of at least one hardware RAID storage solution.
Desirable Requirements
· Knowledge of Fibre Channel SANs.
· Knowledge of the Big Brother monitoring tool or BMC Patrol.
· Detailed knowledge of Sun and HP UNIX server and storage hardware products.
